Is Classy Still Sexy?

Modern-day society often deems dressing classy as not enough to be considered sexy. With the influence of social expectations, many women feel pressured to change their personal style to appear more desirable. But why can't dressing modestly still be just as attractive?

Is classy still sexy? This question is probably overlooked by many these days, but it certainly is worth considering.

Oftentimes, women in particular are made to believe that showing more skin and dressing provocatively is what makes them sexy and gets them the right attention. However, no one seems to discuss how dressing classy can still be just as attractive, if not more.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with women wearing revealing clothing, showing skin, or wearing whatever makes them comfortable. At the end of the day, it is their choice, and they should be free to express themselves through fashion without the fear of being judged. However, somewhere along the way, dressing classy seems to have lost some of its appeal and is not always considered the go-to style.

A turtle neck and flowy pair of jeans. A crewneck sweater and leggings. A long dress that doesn’t reveal pretty much anything. To some, these outfits might seem boring, outdated, or even lack excitement. Women are sometimes encouraged to show more skin to look older, more appealing, or just better. But why can't classy be considered sexy?

The reality is that a woman’s appeal does not solely rely on her clothes, but rather the way in which she wears them.

Confidence can make an outfit. A woman could be covered from head to toe and still look incredibly sexy based on how she carries and feels about herself. If she feels good in what she is wearing, she doesn’t necessarily need a low neckline, a miniskirt, or a short dress to prove she is attractive.

Classiness and sexiness are not mutually exclusive, and women should not have to choose between the two. Dressing classy should not mean sacrificing sexiness, and dressing sexy should not come with a set of fashion standards.

Modern-day fashion trends often create pressure to adopt new styles in order to fit in, even when those trends do not reflect individual personalities. However, trends should not dictate what is sexy or “in right now,” but rather inspire women to style themselves in ways that are unique to them.

While  fashion is supposed to be a form of individuality, and self-expression, it is often difficult to remember since social media plays such a heavy role in shaping fashion and beauty trends. It  can sometimes turn into a competition over who can show the most skin or keep up with the latest trends.

It can easily convince women to believe that they are only attractive if they reveal more of their body and live up to certain expectations. Rather than encouraging individuality, such standards can cause women to question whether personal style is attractive enough.

However, wearing a turtleneck and jeans can be just as desirable as a minidress and heels. Neither outfit choice makes a woman more desirable, confident, or fashionable than the other. Women should rather be empowered to embrace their unique style and have enough confidence to feel good in their own skin.

Perhaps the real question should not be whether classy is still sexy, but why society expects  women to dress a certain way to be considered attractive.

Classy never stopped being sexy. Sexy never relied on certain standards. Society simply needs to stop acting like there is only one way to dress in order to be considered desirable.
